PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Appliance Repair Program enables students to troubleshoot and repair appliances. Interactive discussions and hands-on exercises guide students through the installations, troubleshoot, features, and associated services of appliances. Students also learn how to maintain and repair Refrigerators, Washers, Dryers and Ovens.
This course provides students with opportunities to become familiar with related careers and develop fundamental technological literacy as they learn about the history, systems, and processes of manufacturing. In addition, the course will provide an overview of the safe use of tools and equipment used in the industry. Instruction and learning activities are provided in a laboratory setting using hands-on experiences with the equipment, materials, and technology appropriate to the course content and in accordance with current practices.
This course provides the graduate with the entry-level skills needed to secure employment in the advanced manufacturing industry, Skills learned will include mechanics, electrical, fluid power, electronics, PLC’s and preventive maintenance.
PROGRAM PREREQUISITES:
Students should be familiar with using all basic appliances. They should be comfortable with turning on/off, using and some basics of refrigerators, washers and dryers, oven and microwave ovens.
- Must have: High School Diploma or High School Equivalency
- Must score: 9 or higher in CASAS

- Understand the fundamentals of appliance repair and safety.
- Identify appliance repair tools and testers.
- Test and troubleshoot appliance circuits to familiarize yourself with electricity.
- Understand split-phase motors, capacitor-star motors, and permanent magnetic DC motors.
- Work with line cords and plugs.
- Learn about working with electric clothes-pressing irons, electric room heaters, ceiling fans, and power ventilators.
- Identify and repair the many kinds of drills and power drivers.
- Repair saws, routers, sanders, and air compressors.
- Learn about electric washing machine parts and circuits.
- Troubleshoot and repair washing machines.
- Identify the different types of electric clothes dryer construction.
- Troubleshoot dryer failures.
- Learn about the components, circuits, and operation of microwave ovens.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and test microwave ovens.
- Identify the parts of electric refrigerators and domestic freezers.
- Test and service the mechanical parts of refrigeration systems.
- Demonstrate an understanding of technology.
- Demonstrate an understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
- Demonstrate an understanding of workplace safety and workplace organization.
- Demonstrate an understanding of workplace communication skills and teamwork
- Demonstrate an understanding of basic machine tools.

- Demonstrate an understanding of graphic design by generating and interpreting computer-aided drawings.
- Demonstrate proficiently in the use of quality assurance methods and quality control concepts.
- Demonstrate proficiency in using measurement tools, instruments and testing devices related to proper quality assurance methods.
- Demonstrate an understanding of modern business practices and enterprise systems.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and be able to select production processes.
- Demonstrate an understanding of computer-aided manufacturing and flexible manufacturing planning and control.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify properly, organize, plan, allocate resources, document and produce a mass-produced product via a master project.
- Demonstrate an understanding of industrial tools and processes inclusive of Manual Milling (Optional), CNC machines, and Welding (Optional).

- Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of Programmable Logic Control.

- Conceive, design, and present a project(s) that encompass all the skills learned in the Advanced Manufacturing Technology program.

- Use tools, materials, and processes in an appropriate and safe manner
Ideal Institute of Technology will provide a one-time voucher for student to take Mainstream Engineering Corporation EPA exam and receive Technician Certification.
Student will have access to all necessary equipment and supplies such as Computers, Screw Drivers, Repairing kits and other tools to work with Appliances for the duration of the course.
Student will have full access to our Learning Management System (LMS) portal, Google Classroom and Live Webinars. We will be providing resources in the form of PowerPoints, video tutorials, quizzes, assessments and much more.
CAREER READINESS:
After successful completion of the program and obtaining certification(s), A Job Readiness program and a free Resume Building Workshop will be offered to student through Ideal Career Centre, to prepare students for their job search.
